At least 37 civilians died this Friday and dozens were injured in a bombing by the insurgent Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against the Abu Shouk displacement camp, in El Fasher, in the Sudanese region of North Darfur, a hospital source from the camp informed EFE. The source indicated that the count of the deceased has not finished and there are injured people in hospitals. The Sudanese Doctors’ Medical Network “strongly” condemned what happened, which it described as a “crime that violates all international and humanitarian laws.” The organization added that the attackers committed “a horrible massacre by attacking a mosque with a drone during dawn prayers, causing the death of worshippers, including the elderly and young people.” He also called on the international community, the UN and the African Union to exert “serious pressure” to stop the attacks, protect the civilian population and open humanitarian corridors to facilitate the arrival of food and medicine. The population of El Fasher, more than half of whom are refugees in displacement camps, is constantly suffering attacks from the paramilitaries; in April, an offensive left half a thousand civilians dead. The UN estimates that, since the beginning of the war in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, more than 13 million people have been forced to flee their homes inside or outside the country, while the death toll amounts to tens of thousands, without a precise record.
