Santo Domingo.- Community organizations from the municipality of Eugenio María de Hostos demanded this Friday that President Luis Abinader, his government ministers, and Mayor Alcadio Rosa execute a set of works they consider priority for the development of the locality, while announcing a protest plan starting August 16 if their demands are not met.
In a public document, community members denounced what they describe as abandonment by the authorities and demanded the construction of the Castillo-Hostos-Acicate-La Isleta-Cerrejón and Sabana Grande-Hostos roads, including the bridge on the latter route.
Likewise, they requested the completion of the multipurpose facility at the high school and the primary school in the municipality, as well as the repair of the bathrooms, leaks, and other deficiencies in both educational centers.
Their demands also include the reconstruction of the local aqueduct and the entire drinking water distribution network, as well as actions to stop sand extraction from the rivers, an activity that, as they reported, is causing damage to the environment, agriculture, and the local wildlife.
Community members also demanded the handover of the premises intended for the Hostos Red Cross, the reconstruction and renovation of the municipal cemetery, and the construction of a baseball stadium, noting that a large portion of the municipality’s youth practices that sport, in addition to basketball and volleyball.

In the document, there are also allegations regarding the alleged irregular use of funds intended for the construction of the Sabana Grande-Hostos road and the baseball stadium, accusations that are attributed by the complainants to a source from the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM). So far, Mayor Alcadio Rosa has not commented on these claims, and no evidence has been presented to support them.
The organizers asserted that the demanded works were part of the campaign promises made by President Luis Abinader and the municipal mayor, and therefore called on the authorities to fulfill those commitments.
Finally, they announced the start of a struggle plan starting August 16 to demand the execution of the works and warned that they will maintain their actions until they obtain a response from the authorities.
