Santo Domingo.– Lawyer Frederick Ferreras, a specialist in family law and child protection, expressed his firm support today for the legislative initiative presented by Deputy Anny Mambrú, which requests that the Executive Branch authorize a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Crisis Intervention Unit in the municipality of Santo Domingo Este.

Ferreras described the proposal as a fundamental step for strengthening the system for the protection of minors’ rights in the country, emphasizing that mental health is an essential component of the integral development of childhood and adolescence.

As a legal professional, I see daily the difficulties that families face when, in the face of a mental health crisis, they cannot find a specialized space that guarantees respect for the dignity and fundamental rights of their children“, stated the lawyer.

The jurist highlighted that the proposed location, Santo Domingo Este, is a necessary response to the municipality’s high population density and the historical lack of specialized public health services for minors in this area. According to Ferreras, having a crisis intervention unit will allow for timely care, reducing the vulnerability of children and young people and providing the necessary support to their family units.

“The management of Deputy Anny Mambrú, by combining her experience as a health professional with her legislative work, demonstrates a real commitment to the well-being of the people. I call on the Ministry of Public Health and the National Health Service to accept this request with the speed that the case deserves,” pointed out Ferreras.

Finally, the lawyer called on civil society and the competent authorities to prioritize child and adolescent mental health on the public agenda, reiterating that guaranteeing dignified and timely care is, without a doubt, a way to protect the life and future of our nation.
