Peru.-The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) denied that there is a new presidential voting day scheduled for July 12, after an image announcing an alleged “third electoral round” circulated on social media and messaging applications. The electoral body described this version as false and asked citizens to verify information through its official channels.
Through a statement, the ONPE specified that Peruvian regulations do not establish an additional phase after the second presidential election. The institution recalled that the electoral process only contemplates the stages defined by the Political Constitution of Peru and ruled out the existence of a subsequent new vote.
ONPE clarifies the scope of the presidential election
The electoral entity indicated that the Peruvian legal framework establishes a second election between the two candidates who obtained the highest relative votes in the general elections. In that sense, the ONPE cited Article 111 of the Political Constitution of Peru, which establishes “a second election” between “the candidates who have obtained the two highest relative majorities”.

The agency explained that this constitutional provision does not include a subsequent voting stage after the presidential runoff. Therefore, it ruled out that a new election day under the name of “third round” will take place on July 12.

Electoral body asks to consult official sources
In light of the spread of false content regarding the electoral process, the ONPE recommended that citizens check the information published on its official platforms to avoid the propagation of incorrect data. The institution indicated that its channels serve to resolve questions related to the 2026 Presidential Runoff Election.
“If you receive any information of dubious veracity regarding the 2026 Presidential Runoff Election, you can verify it through the official channels of the ONPE, where we clarify citizens’ doubts,” the electoral body stated.

With 97.916% of the tally sheets counted in the presidential ticket election, Roberto Helbert Sánchez Palomino, candidate for Juntos por el Perú, continues to lead the count with a minimal difference over Keiko Sofía Fujimori Higuchi, representative of Fuerza Popular. According to the update from the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) as of June 10, 2026, at 6:10:25 p.m., Sánchez reaches 50.027% of the valid votes, while Fujimori records 49.973%.
In absolute figures, the Juntos por el Perú candidate has 9,018,592 votes, just 9,788 votes ahead of Fujimori, who has accumulated 9,008,804 votes. The difference between the two remains narrow while there are still records to be processed: 1.741% were sent to the Special Electoral Jury (JEE) and 0.343% remain pending counting.

In the foreign vote, the trend is different, with Keiko Fujimori leading with 63.368% of the votes counted abroad, equivalent to 160,679 ballots. Sánchez obtains 36.632%, with 92,886 votes. This block corresponds to 83.602% of the foreign records processed up to the last report.
