Santo Domingo. – For the first time, the National Commission for the Defense of Competition (ProCompetencia) participates in the Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2025, which takes place from September 25 to October 5 in the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte with the aim of promoting culture in the country. Upon inaugurating the stand, the president of the Board of Directors of ProCompetencia, María Elena Vásquez Taveras, expressed that, just as books are an open door to knowledge to which everyone can have access on equal terms, the institution works hard to ensure that economic agents operate under this principle in the markets for goods and services. “At our stand, you will find publications, guides, yearbooks, and studies that we conduct, which are of vital importance for everyone to have access to better quality goods and services at better prices. We invite you to come and learn about the work we have been doing from ProCompetencia to ensure the well-being of Dominicans,” he stated. ProCompetencia’s office is located in the Dominican Man Museum and offers a wide exhibition of bibliographic materials that address different aspects of competition and its impact on the economy. The pavilion features studies, laws, publications, and various resources that facilitate the understanding of topics such as competition law, market concentration, economic regulation, and other content that seeks to promote knowledge and civic awareness of the importance of promoting fairer and more efficient business environments. These materials are available in both physical and digital format for the public attending the fair, which receives thousands of people every year. In the 2024 edition, the attendance of more than 200,000 visitors was recorded.
