Savannah Guthrie’s Mother’s Disappearance: FBI Releases New Details of Suspect and Doubles Reward

According to the agency, they are looking for a man approximately 1.75 meters tall and of average build who was carrying a backpack that was recorded on video

Arizona.– On Thursday, the FBI released new details about the man it identifies as a suspect in the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old woman missing since the end of January, and increased the reward to $100,000 for information that leads to her location or the arrest of anyone involved in the case.

The images recorded by the home’s doorbell camera show a man approximately 1.75 meters tall and of medium build, carrying a black “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack, the agency reported in a social media post on Thursday night. “We hope this updated description helps focus the leads we are receiving,” the FBI indicated in the post. The FBI indicated that it collected more than 13,000 leads since February 1st, the day Guthrie was reported missing, and the Arizona sheriff’s department received more than 4,000 calls in the last 24 hours.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31st and reported missing the next day. Hours before her family noticed her absence, a camera installed on the porch recorded a person with a backpack, balaclava, long pants, jacket, and gloves. “It’s a tremendous amount of work”, said Roberto Villaseñor, former Tucson police chief. “In a situation like this, you can’t move forward without leads and the cooperation of the public,” he maintained. “They processed the scene. But once that’s complete and exhausted, it’s difficult to move forward without additional information coming in.”

Tens of thousands of clues
The case unfolded before a global audience that knew Savannah Guthrie as the host of the Today show and that, in the last two weeks, saw her as a desperate daughter searching for her mother.

The disappearance sparked strong interest from amateur internet investigators, a show of support from President Donald Trump, and a series of special coverages, particularly by NBC, the network where Savannah Guthrie works. Even so, the investigation is progressing slowly and surrounded by questions. The Pima County Sheriff and the FBI released phone numbers and a website to receive information. Several hundred detectives and agents were assigned to the case. “Each tip is evaluated based on its credibility, relevance, and potential for law enforcement to act,” the FBI stated on the social network X, adding that the operation runs 24 hours.
