Senate promotes the creation of the Cassava Bread Institute

Santo Domingo. – The Senate of the Republic approved this Wednesday in the first reading the bill that creates the Dominican Cassava Institute (INDOCASABE), an initiative that seeks to establish state policy to promote the production and processing of the cassava industry in the country.

The legislative piece, presented by senators Antonio Marte and Manuel María Rodríguez, provides that INDOCASABE will promote the planting of cassava throughout the national territory in accordance with the requirements of the crop and agroclimatic conditions.

In addition, it will advise small, medium, and large producers on agricultural credits and will ensure that the production and export of cassava comply with the required registrations and standards. The agency will also promote scientific studies and exchanges with international institutions linked to cassava planting and the commercialization of cassava.
