Rapper Snoop Dogg recently surprised everyone by revealing that he had an awkward moment when taking his grandson to see the movie Lightyear (2022), the Toy Story spin-off in which Pixar introduces a same-sex parent family for the first time in its animated universe. During his participation in the podcast It’s Giving, hosted by Sarha Fontenot, the artist spoke about his role as a father, grandfather, and mature man. There he recalled how his grandson bombarded him with questions upon noticing that the character of astronaut Alisha Hawthorne, voiced by Kiki Palmer, had a child with her female partner, Kiko.

“En medio de la película me dijo: ‘¿Papá Snoop? ¿Cómo dos mujeres pueden tener un bebé?’. Yo no tenía respuesta. Solo pensé: Carajo, yo vine a ver una película, no a explicar esto”,

relató el intérprete de The Next Episode.
The rapper confessed that he tried to distract the child by asking him to keep watching the tape, but the little one insisted on getting an explanation before continuing. “I felt as if I was being attacked with something for which I had no words. It left me perplexed. I just thought: take these popcorn and enjoy the movie“, he commented.

Snoop Dogg admitted that the scene put him in a bind and that, far from clearing up doubts, he ended up asking himself questions: “Now I’m the one with questions. That kid woke me up to ask me for explanations and I didn’t know what to answer. It was crazy”.

The rapper concluded that the experience left him afraid to go back to the cinema with his grandson, aware that modern representations in children’s films provoke difficult conversations for which, he said, he is not always prepared.
