Abinader and Cruz deliver the completely renovated Las Caobas Sports Center

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader delivered this Saturday the fully renovated Las Caobas Sports Center, in the municipality of Santo Domingo Oeste, a facility that will serve as a stage for the training, recreation and competition of thousands of young people in the area.

Accompanied by the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, whose ministry is responsible for the work, the president officially inaugurated it as part of the program to rescue and dignify sports infrastructures that the Government is carrying out throughout the country.

The intervention in the installation had an investment of over 34 million pesos, carried out by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MIDEREC) by instructions of President Abinader. During the event, Cruz highlighted the importance of the multipurpose facility for the youth of Santo Domingo Oeste and reaffirmed Miderec’s commitment to the development of community sports. “President, the young people are very happy, very grateful because this sports center is practically the only public indoor space with dignity in the municipality,” he emphasized. He then announced the creation of a volunteer group for the care, preservation, and maintenance of the sports complex, which was sworn in by him and with Abinader as a witness. The newly created organization is chaired by businessman Eddy Medina and is completed by Julio Martínez Pozo, Mayor Francisco Peña, Teodoro Adón, Alejandro Rejeda Brun, Agustín Matos, Gregorio Rosel Santos, Rolando Matías, Gregorio Almánzar, Marina Mateo and Santiago Lazo. The remodeling of the Las Caobas Sports Center included the reconstruction of the roof, rehabilitation of the court, repair of bathrooms, bleachers, lighting, general painting, regulation scoreboards, and structural adjustments. The blessing of the sports center was given by Father Santiago Rodríguez Palanca, vicar of the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
