Florida biology teacher sued by former student who says sexual abuse destroyed his faith in God

A former high school student in Tampa has filed a lawsuit against his former biology teacher, Brooke Anderson, who is already serving a 30-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to multiple sex crimes involving the student.

According to the lawsuit, Anderson’s relationship with the teenager began when he ate lunch in her classroom during his first two years at Riverview High School. The complaint alleges that, during his junior year, Anderson began sending him sexually explicit messages, behavior that escalated during his senior year.

The lawsuit alleges that Anderson sent the student sexually provocative images in April 2025 and later sexually assaulted him in her classroom. The student was below Florida’s age of consent at the time, according to the complaint.

The lawsuit claims the alleged abuse caused the teenager permanent psychological injuries, including a loss of faith in God. He is seeking $100,000 in damages from Anderson and an additional $50,000 from the Hillsborough County School Board, which he accuses of negligence for allowing Anderson to work at the school.
