Abinader will attend the inauguration of the Chilean president-elect on March 11

Santiago de Chile.- A dozen heads of State or Government have confirmed their attendance at the inauguration on March 11 of the president-elect of Chile, José Antonio Kast, including King Felipe VI of Spain or the rulers of Argentina, Javier Milei, and Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, official sources reported this Thursday. The 59-year-old ultra-Catholic former deputy will succeed the progressive Gabriel Boric and will become the first far-right president and the first defender of Augusto Pinochet’s regime (1973-1990) to come to power in democracy.

The Chilean Foreign Ministry indicated in a statement that the presidents of Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz; Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves; Honduras, Nasry Asfura; Hungary, Tamás Sulyok; Panama, José Raúl Mulino; Paraguay, Santiago Peña; Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader; Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, as well as the Prime Minister of Haiti, Alix Fils-Aimé, will also travel to Chile. During an international tour, after winning the elections last December by a wide margin, Kast invited the Prime Minister of Italy, Georgia Meloni, and the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, to the inauguration, two leaders to whom the future Chilean president has openly shown his admiration, but who have not yet confirmed their attendance. Those who have done so are the Vice President of El Salvador, Félix Ulloa, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani. Also, the Vice President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue; the Prime Minister of Curaçao, Gilmar Pisas; and the Executive Vice President of the European Commission for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, Teresa Ribera, confirmed their presence at the inauguration, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is still unknown who will represent the United States at Kast’s inauguration, who has already said that he will be a partner of Donald Trump in the region and will attend the meeting of ultra leaders that the American president has convened for March 7 in Miami.
