Chaos on Monumental Avenue due to flooding caused by storm Melissa

Santo Domingo. – Avenida Monumental, in the Los Girasoles sector, near the Cristo Redentor cemetery, is completely flooded due to the torrential rains caused by Tropical Storm Melissa. The scene on this important access road is one of chaos: broken-down vehicles, flooded businesses, and paralyzed traffic.

Residents of the area reported that the situation repeats itself every time it rains, while the authorities are slowly making progress in the sanitation of the canal. The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that intense showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts will continue during the afternoon and night of this Thursday in a large part of the country, as a result of Tropical Storm Melissa. Nine provinces remain on red alert, including Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, San Cristóbal, and Barahona.
