Congresswoman Seline Méndez proposes protocol to prevent misuse of public schools after obscene music video

Santo Domingo, DR.- The congresswoman of the National District for the party Fuerza del Pueblo, Selineé Méndez, requested this Monday to the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, the creation of a mandatory permit protocol for the use of school buildings in activities unrelated to their regular or ordinary use. The legislator made the request through written communication, following the recent case in which a video of obscene content was recorded and disseminated within a public school. Méndez warned that events like this not only tarnish the image of the institution, but also undermine society’s trust in the education system.

“Schools must remain sacred spaces for training, learning, and values. Using a classroom for the creation of obscene content offends the dignity of the educational community and cannot go unpunished,” he expressed.

Among the measures proposed by Méndez are:

1. Prior authorization: any non-curricular activity within educational centers must have written permission from the corresponding Regional Education Directorate.
2. Content review: creation of a commission of up to five people (directors, parents, and teachers) to approve the material to be produced.
3. Institutional responsibility: directors, parent associations, and administrative staff would assume direct responsibility for the use of the facilities.
4. Access control: mandatory registration of visitors with justification for the visit.
5. Restrictions: limit the entry of recording and production equipment to authorized personnel.
6. Sanctions: a clear and proportional sanctions regime against officials or individuals who violate the protocol.
7. Internal campaigns: promote the slogan “The school is a space for learning and values.” Méndez trusted that the Ministry of Education will act on his proposal, in order to strengthen the security and educational mission of public schools in the Dominican Republic.
