Deputies approve in first reading Procurement and Contracting Law

Santo Domingo.- The plenary of the Chamber of Deputies approved in first reading, during the session of this Tuesday, the bill that modifies the Law on Public Purchases and Contracting, after declaring it urgent and freeing it from reading. The initiative is authored by deputies Franklin Ramírez, Dilenia Santos, Gabriela Abreu and María de los Ángeles.
The project has a favorable report from the special commission that studied it and aims to introduce reforms to the legal framework that regulates public procurement in the country. The modifications range from the composition of the management and supervisory bodies to the principles, procedures, and rules governing the acquisition of goods, services, and works by the State. During the same session, the deputies approved in second reading the bill that establishes financial, educational, and professional incentives for medical specialists who practice in the country’s border zone. This measure seeks to encourage the permanence of medical personnel in provinces such as Pedernales, Independencia, Elías Piña, Dajabón, Montecristi, Santiago Rodríguez, and Bahoruco. The initiative now goes to the Senate of the Republic. In addition, the resolution approving the agreement between the Government of the Dominican Republic and the Government of the United Arab Emirates on Air Services between and beyond their respective territories, signed in Dubai on November 3, 2014, was ratified. Legislators also validated the resolution approving the Framework Agreement on the establishment of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), signed in New Delhi, India, on September 13, 2022.You can read: National Congress seeks to expedite approval of the Penal Code
Finally, the project that declares the Cotuí carnival, Sánchez Ramírez province, as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Dominican Nation was enacted into law. The piece, authored by the Senate president, Ricardo de los Santos, will be sent to the Executive Branch for its promulgation.#Most read
