DICRIM shoots down “La Gárgola” in alleged exchange of gunfire in Santiago

Santiago.Agents of the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DICRIM) shot and killed a suspected criminal identified as Jairo Antonio Espaillat, alias La Gárgola” or “El Explosivo”, on Tuesday afternoon during an alleged shootout in the Jacagua community, north of this city. According to the preliminary version from the authorities, the 42-year-old man was actively sought and had at least three arrest warrants related to armed robbery.

According to reports, upon realizing the police pursuit, Espaillat allegedly fired at the officers from some bushes, which caused them to return fire. In the exchange, he was seriously injured and died later while receiving medical attention at a health center. The body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) of Santiago, for the corresponding purposes of autopsy and subsequent delivery to its relatives. So far, the authorities have not offered further details about the case.
