Dominican Republic reaches record number of tourists in December, with more than 900 thousand air arrivals

Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Republic reached a historic record in the tourism sector by registering more than 900,000 international visitors by air during the month of December, the highest figure ever achieved in a single month. The announcement was made by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, through his Instagram account, where he highlighted that this number far exceeds the previous record registered before the pandemic, when in 2020 667,534 tourists were counted.

With this performance, December is consolidated as the best month in the history of Dominican tourism, reflecting not only the sustained growth of the sector, but also its strong impact on the national economy. Collado highlighted that this advance represents much more than statistics, by becoming a source of opportunities and well-being for thousands of families. “Today we surpassed 900,000 air tourists in a month, the highest figure in the history of our tourism. We continue to grow and proudly strengthen the Dominican Republic Brand,” said the official. The minister detailed that this growth has generated 73,608 direct and indirect jobs, in addition to contributing RD$3,271 million in tax revenue. Likewise, he indicated that foreign exchange earnings reached US$705 million, while the contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was US$3,937 million. Collado underscored that these results demonstrate not only the recovery of tourism after the pandemic, but also its “sustainability and long-term projection”, consolidating the Dominican Republic as one of the “main destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America”.
