Government announces extensive Christmas agenda with concerts, fairs, social aid, and community activities

Santo Domingo. – The Dominican government presented this Monday a robust agenda of activities for the month of December, which includes concerts, theatrical works, producers’ fairs, theme parks, community dinners and a comprehensive social assistance program designed to benefit thousands of vulnerable families throughout the country. The Ministry of Culture will lead the artistic offering with six philharmonic concerts by the Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dominican Big Band. The performances will take place on December 5 in San José de Ocoa, on the 7th in La Vega, on the 12th in Moca, on the 14th in Cotuí, on the 18th in Santo Domingo Norte and on the 22nd in Higüey.

The Christmas season will also include the play “Christmas Fantasy”, which will be staged on December 16 at the Gran Teatro del Cibao and on the 21st at the National Theater. In addition, from December 12 to 14, the National Craft Fair will take place in Plaza España, while the Long Night of Museums will allow free entry and tours in museums throughout the country during those same dates. As part of community activities, the Government will enable 19 Christmas parks, 19 community lunches or dinners, and 14 closing parties organized by PROPEEP. In coordination with the Directorate of Social Assistance and Community Food (DASAC), the program Christmas 360 will also be launched, aimed at distributing dinners and lunches, food kits, household items, and roof repairs for families in vulnerable situations. These actions will translate into more than 15 million servings served through the Spoon of Hope program, 1.5 million raw rations distributed to social organizations, the delivery of household goods and appliances to more than 25,000 families, and the repair of more than 6,000 homes throughout the country. The celebrations will also bring producers and consumers closer together through nine agricultural fairs that will offer products at affordable prices in different provinces between November 29 and December 28. In addition to this, there are 11 food routes, producer markets, mobile warehouses and an Inespre savings program in allied supermarkets. From December 2nd to 23rd, the Presidential Commission for Support of Neighborhood Development will carry out Christmas bonuses, lighting ceremonies, and Christmas dinners in neighborhoods of Greater Santo Domingo. On December 16th, a national gathering will also be held in Domingo Savio with 1,000 community barbers and stylists, led by President Luis Abinader. For the children, the Government will coordinate two major toy distribution events on December 22 in Capotillo and on the 23rd in Santiago, in addition to a contest that will award the neighborhood with the best Christmas decoration. The agenda, according to the Government, seeks to bring art, entertainment, solidarity, and economic opportunities to thousands of Dominicans during the Christmas season.
