Santo Domingo.– A large contingent of police officers and specialized security units was deployed this Monday in the surroundings of the Ciudad Nueva Palace of Justice, where the First Instruction Court of the National District is scheduled to announce its decision regarding the case of the tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set nightclub.
From the early hours of the morning, authorities reinforced surveillance in the area with the installation of mobile barriers and a special unit to ensure public order and the safety of the people attending the judicial headquarters.
At the scene, the presence of the victims’ relatives, legal representatives, members of the press, and various figures linked to the case can be observed, including the sister of the late merengue singer Ruby Pérez, one of the 236 fatalities left by the collapse of the nightclub’s roof in the early hours of April 8, 2025.

Judge Raymundo Mejía must decide whether siblings Antonio and Maribel Espaillat, owners of the Jet Set nightclub, will be sent to a full trial for involuntary manslaughter following the tragedy.

Likewise, the magistrate is expected to rule on the request submitted by some plaintiffs to change the legal classification of the case from involuntary manslaughter to voluntary manslaughter.
The authorities are keeping the perimeter under strict surveillance to prevent incidents and ensure the normal progress of the judicial proceedings, considered one of the most anticipated and sensitive in recent years due to the magnitude of the tragedy.
