Man who killed a young woman and dumped her body in a landfill sentenced to 20 years in prison

Santo Domingo.- The Collegiate Court of Puerto Plata sentenced a man to 20 years in prison who, on September 21, 2023, killed a young woman and threw her body into an improvised landfill in the El Cupey sector. The condemned was identified as Pablo Andrés Payano García (alias el Cojo), found guilty of killing María Eliza Reyes Martínez (Isa).

According to the accusation, the man approached the victim near the park Juan García, from where he moved her to different points in the city until reaching the Cofresí sector, where he supplied her with controlled substances and then strangled her, causing her death. During the investigation process, the Prosecutor’s Office managed to collect documentary, testimonial, and expert evidence that proved decisive in supporting the accusation and demonstrating the criminal responsibility of the accused. The file establishes that, after committing the crime, Payano García moved the victim’s body to an improvised landfill in the El Cupey sector, where he left it abandoned with the intention of concealing the criminal act. Payano García must serve the sentence at the San Felipe Correction and Rehabilitation Center.
