Santo Domingo. – The Sixth Instruction Court of the National District issued an order to open a trial against the president and treasurer of the Dominican Modern Pentathlon Federation (Fedopem), Freddy Núñez Jorge and Evaristo Ozoria Rodríguez (Aníbal), accused of aggravated fraud, criminal association, forgery of documents and, in the case of Núñez, also of money laundering.

Both defendants must continue with the coercive measures of periodic presentation and prohibition of leaving the country, while the full reading of the resolution is set for October 2 at 2:00 p.m. According to the Public Prosecutor’s accusation, between 2013 and 2023 Fedopem administered more than RD$65.9 million delivered by the Ministry of Sports (formerly Sedefir), detecting irregular handling of the funds. The investigations included raids in Santo Domingo, María Trinidad Sánchez and at the federation’s offices in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, where documents and other evidence were seized. This process, considered the first major corruption case in Dominican sports, indicates that the directors used public funds to cover personal expenses, issued irregular checks, falsified justification concepts, and presented fraudulent maneuvers in the accountability reports, in order to continue receiving state resources. Núñez and Ozoria will face trial for crimes contemplated in the Constitution, the Penal Code, and Law 155-17 on Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing.
