Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC) reported that in the coming days it will put into operation the second quadrant of the Las Parras Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR), an expansion that will allow for the transfer of 2,400 inmates from the La Victoria National Penitentiary.
With this new phase, the penitentiary complex will reach a capacity of 4,800 inmates. The announcement was made by the director of the DGSPC, Roberto Santana, during a tour of the facilities alongside the president of the Prison Pastoral Care, Monsignor Santiago Rodríguez.

The institution explained that the new quadrant will feature housing cells, a medical area, a school, a dining hall, spaces for family and legal visits, training workshops, a commissary, agricultural areas, maximum security zones, and courtyards with open spaces, in compliance with international standards.
In addition, the DGSPC indicated that the transfer of the inmates will be carried out under the same protocol used during the opening of the first quadrant, inaugurated in November 2025. It also reported that the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (MIVED) will deliver the Eugenio María de Hostos Educational Center this week, located within the facility, as part of the expansion process of Las Parras, a project conceived to reduce overcrowding in the Dominican penitentiary system.
