Santo Domingo,.- The Ministry of Health announced this Monday that starting March 11, it will incorporate the new vaccine against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), the Nonavalent, which will be part of the national vaccination schedule and protects against nine types of the virus, 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52 and 58.

With this update, the schedule will be a single dose, except in those cases where children are immunocompromised, who could be given two doses, the Ministry of Health specified in a statement. Children and young people will be inoculated free of charge and this will be applied through the 40 Provincial Health Directorates (DPS) and in the more than 1,400 vaccination centers located throughout the national territory. Previously, the vaccination schedule included the Tetravalent vaccine, which protects against two main types of Human Papillomavirus, 16 and 18, responsible for the majority of cervical cancer cases, the second most frequent cause of this disease in the Dominican female population. The incorporation of this vaccine maintains protection against these types of cancers and extends coverage to protect against five additional types of viruses, contributing to a broader prevention against the development of this cancer.
