PN recovers more than 800 thousand pesos in dollars stolen in San José de las Matas

Santiago.- The National Police reported the recovery of more than 800 thousand pesos, between dollars and pesos, as a result of a robbery and arrested the alleged perpetrators in the municipality of San José de las Matas. The incident was reported on August 20, 2025, by a citizen residing in the Loma Quemada sector, who informed that the previous day, August 19, in the morning, unknown individuals stole from his mother’s residence the sum of US$17,000 and RD$300,000 in cash, which were kept in a metal box with a padlock, hidden under a bed. Following the start of investigations and through intelligence work, during the night of the same day the complaint was filed, Nerson Luis Cerda Cerda, 31 years old, and Horcar de Jesús Cerda Almonte, 19, both residents of the same locality, were arrested.

The individuals were caught in the act, with US$11,900, RD$130,000 in different denominations, and a Honda C70 motorcycle, chassis No. C70-D136941, being seized from them. The recovered money was identified by the complainant as part of what was stolen. Both the detainees and the evidence will be made available to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, for the corresponding legal purposes.
