President Abinader inaugurates UASD-Cotui Regional University Center with 29 classrooms

Cotui. – President Luis Abinader inaugurated this Sunday the UASD-Cotui Regional University Center, the first extension of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo in the province of Sánchez Ramírez, with 29 classrooms that will benefit thousands of young people in the region. The work was carried out through the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (MIVED).

With this inauguration, the president adds four university centers delivered in less than five years, along with those of Baní, Azua and Hato Mayor, strengthening access to higher education throughout the country. During the event, Abinader highlighted the progress made by UASD as a pillar of national intellectual development and reiterated the Government’s commitment to quality education for new generations. In addition, he announced the construction of the Cotuí Ring Road, a road work that will improve mobility and the local economy.

In infrastructure, the president highlighted projects such as the Cevico–Monte Plata highway, the Hatillo road, and the construction of four indoor courts in the province. He also announced new water projects, including the Cotuí aqueduct and a potable water system at the Hatillo dam, to improve water supply in the communities.

UASD closer to the people

The rector of UASD, Editrudis Beltrán Crisóstomo, pointed out that the new campus reflects President Abinader’s commitment to a modern and close to the population public university, while the Minister of MIVED, Carlos Bonilla, highlighted that investing in education is investing in the future of the country. The university center required an investment exceeding RD$1,227 million, occupying more than 18,600 m². It has 29 classrooms, three laboratories, a smart classroom, a computer lab, five graduate classrooms, a library, an auditorium, and a three-story administrative building. In addition, it offers recreational and sports areas, a mixed court, a patriotic plaza, bleachers, and 115 parking spaces. Courses will be offered in Clinical Psychology, Modern Languages, complete basic cycle and a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics to the English Language. Currently, the MIVED is advancing in the construction of three new university centers in Santo Domingo Este, Santiago Rodríguez and Neyba, consolidating public higher education and the equitable development of the provinces. Thanks to this work, higher education is brought closer to the population of Sánchez Ramírez and neighboring communities, allowing students to access quality training without having to move to the UASD headquarters in Santo Domingo.
