Santo Domingo – The Dominican Republic recorded 177 maternal deaths in 2025, a figure similar to that of 2024, according to data provided this Friday by the Ministry of Public Health.

Regarding infant mortality, 1,819 deaths were recorded last year, compared to the 2,255 deaths reported in 2024. In other news, according to the bulletin corresponding to the last epidemiological week of last year, 2025 showed stable behavior and no deaths were recorded from dengue, malaria, cholera, and some vaccine-preventable diseases, which authorities call a milestone in public health. In the last week, two cases of malaria were reported, for an annual total of 877 confirmed cases, with no associated deaths. The bulletin also indicates that the country remained free of cholera cases throughout the year, while leptospirosis closed with 186 accumulated cases, with none confirmed in the last week.
