Santo Domingo.- At the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the judges of the Montecristi Collegiate Court sentenced a woman to 20 years in prison who caused the death of her romantic partner in the year 2024.
Yafreisy Pimentel Santos was convicted of killing Víctor Alfonso Then Acosta, at a time when they were in the home where they both lived, located in the Santa Lucía sector, Las Matas de Santa Cruz municipality, Montecristi province.
During the trial, the Public Prosecutor’s Office demonstrated with overwhelming evidence that the now-convicted individual used a bladed weapon, specifically a knife, to attack Then Acosta in the early hours of April 29, 2024.

The investigation of the case was carried out by the public prosecutor Francis Peña Sabes, and the prosecutor of the Las Matas de Santa Cruz municipality, María V. Taveras.
The litigation in the hearing was led by fiscal attorneys Yelissa Cabrera and Ybelca Castillo, who supported the accusation with sufficient evidence and demonstrated the criminal responsibility of the defendant.

The sentence was handed down by judges Mercedes Reyes, Ranciel Castillo, and Ana Virginia Rodríguez, after establishing that the defendant violated articles 295 and 304 of the Dominican Penal Code, which define voluntary manslaughter.
Pimentel Santos must serve the sentence in the San Fernando de Montecristi public jail.
