The announcement was released through her official page and accompanied by the confirmation of her upcoming participation in the podcast New Heights, hosted by her partner, Travis Kelce, and his brother Jason Kelce. The coincidence of the schedule with the astronomical phenomenon and the numerical symbolism was interpreted as a characteristic nod from Swift, known for including coded messages in her work. The Perseid meteor shower, originating from the remnants of the Swift-Tuttle comet, is one of the most visible astronomical events of the year, with up to 100 meteors per hour under clear skies. Its maximum visibility is recorded every August in the northern hemisphere.

This new project arrives after the album The Tortured Poets Department (2024) and after the artist concluded her world tour The Eras Tour in December 2024. In May 2025, Swift regained the rights to her first six albums after a purchase valued at 360 million dollars.
