A landslide caused by heavy rains buried the village of Tarsin last Sunday in western Sudan, causing the death of about a thousand people and leaving only one survivor, according to a statement released this Tuesday by the Sudan Liberation Army Movement.
“We continue with deep sadness and concern to follow the tragic events that affected the residents of the village of Tarsin, due to the massive and devastating landslides that struck the village, located in the middle of Jebel Marra, in the Amo district“, indicated in the text the group led by Abdelwahid Mohamed Nour.

According to initial reports, all the villagers, about a thousand people including “men, women and children”, died due to the landslide that occurred on Sunday and only one person managed to survive.
The Sudan Liberation Army Movement highlighted that the village of Tarsin was “completely destroyed”, therefore it called on the United Nations to provide support in the recovery of bodies and the movement of debris.
Sudan is immersed in a war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the state of North Darfur, which has forced the forced displacement of people seeking refuge in the Marra Mountains.
The Liberation Army Movement is a rebel group from Darfur that controls precisely that mountainous area of Jebel Marra and has remained neutral in the clashes between the SAF and the Army.
