At least three police officers injured in explosive drone attack in southwest Colombia

Bogotá.– At least three police officers were injured this Sunday in an armed attack with a drone loaded with explosives in the municipality of El Bordo in the department of Cauca (southwest). According to the first reports from the authorities, armed men launched the device against uniformed officers who were in the urban area of the municipality.

Police sources told EFE that the uniformed officers were hit by shrapnel from the explosion and that one of them is of greater complexity due to the severity of his injuries. The authorities reacted immediately to contain the situation and the injured were taken to medical centers, where they remain stable. The attack occurs just two months after a similar event also occurred in El Bordo, where last June FARC dissidents used drones with explosives against Police facilities, leaving several injured and material damage. The department of Cauca, one of the hardest hit by the armed conflict, is the epicenter of the territorial dispute between the FARC dissidents and other criminal groups seeking control of illicit economies, such as drug trafficking and illegal mining.
