Delcy Rodríguez denies US governs in Venezuela and affirms that the country maintains its sovereignty

Caracas,.- The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, said this Tuesday that no “external agent” governs the South American country, after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, assured that part of his Administration will be in charge of coordinating a transition in the oil nation.

“We are here governing alongside the people, the Government of Venezuela rules our country, no one else, there is no external agent governing Venezuela,” said the official after installing the commission of the Agro-Food, Fisheries, Communal and Industrial General Staff, broadcast by the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).

Rodríguez indicated that the Venezuelan people are active in the streets, marching to demand the freedom of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, after they were captured by the United States following a military attack in Caracas and three neighboring states in the early hours of Saturday. “We have grown in strength, we have grown spiritually to face the challenges, the aggressions, the threats. Personally, those who threaten me, I say: my destiny is not decided by anyone but God, that is my answer,” he added. The acting president urged Venezuelans to continue working so that the objectives of the productive sectors are met in this new year. On Monday, Trump said that Secretaries of State and War, Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth, respectively, and advisor on security and migration issues Stephen Miller will be in charge of coordinating the transition in Venezuela, while assuring that Rodríguez is “cooperating”. In an interview with NBC News, Trump also included his vice president, JD Vance, in the team in charge of Venezuela, although the latter has remained in the background since a large military and special operations deployment stormed Caracas on Saturday to capture Maduro and Flores. To the question of who will be the main person responsible for making decisions about Venezuela in that group, Trump simply said that he will have the last word. Rubio explained this Sunday that the US officials in charge of directing the transition in Venezuela will do so from a “policy” sphere and that it will be an “effort of the entire national security apparatus”. On Sunday, Trump demanded from Rodriguez “full access” to the South American country in terms of natural resources and other matters, while threatening to launch new attacks on Venezuela if the government “doesn’t behave well”.
