Caracas.- The president of
Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced this Thursday a “great organizational and mobilization day of forces” of the
Bolivarian National Militia (MNB) for this Friday, to which he hopes will be joined by the 8.2 million citizens who, he assured, recently joined the “national defense system” in the face of what he called
“threats” from the United States, which is carrying out a military deployment in Caribbean waters near the South American nation.
In a meeting with authorities from his Government and the
Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB), broadcast by the state channel
Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), the president said that the “powerful base” of 4.5 million militiamen “already trained for years” is also summoned, who will be joined by the more than eight million who, he claimed, enlisted in the MNB.

“To all Venezuelans, families who enlisted in all the communities of the country, tomorrow Friday, September 5, throughout the day, will be summoned,” Maduro informed.
The Chavista leader assured that the so-called Communal Militia Units (UCM) will be activated “for the first time in the country’s military history” in 5,336 communities, and explained that each of them will have “a set of popular bases for integral defense”, which total 15,751, where the recruits will be incorporated.
Subsequently, the militiamen will be called to participate in sessions with “higher and superior levels,” Maduro announced, without offering further details.
For the head of state, the enlistment process that took place in the second half of last month “had a great global impact” and Venezuela, he said, “astounded the world” with these registration days in the Militia.
Regarding this, he ratified that this registration “is going to be permanent” and, in that sense, announced the implementation of the Permanent Enrollment System (SAP) through the Patria System, a virtual platform of the State.
Maduro highlighted the country’s “absolute capacity” to “make peace triumph in any circumstance” and to “defend itself from so many threats and psychological wars.”
“We are facing extremist currents from the north, Nazi-extremist, (…) that intend to threaten the peace of South America, the Caribbean, and intend to continue attacking the rights of the world’s peoples,” he added.
On Monday, the Chavista warned that his country faces what he considers the “greatest threat ever seen” in America “in the last hundred years”, with the deployment, he denounced, of eight U.S. military ships with 1,200 missiles and a nuclear submarine that “target” the South American nation, which -he warned- would declare itself “in arms” if “attacked”.
Maduro rejects that the deployment is to fight against drug trafficking, as the US said, and assures that it is a plan to seek a political change in Venezuela through “maximum military pressure”.
