Patrick Clancy described his ex-wife, Lindsay Clancy, as a “fun-loving, outgoing person” when they first began dating, years before she was accused of killing their three young children.
In an extended interview with “60 Minutes,” Patrick recalled the early days of their relationship, which began in 2013. He said they shared similar goals and wanted to have a family.
“She was just a fun-loving, outgoing person,” he recalled, describing one of their first dates, when they flew a kite on a beach in Boston.
The couple became engaged after about two and a half years and later had three children: Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months old.
When asked about Lindsay as a mother, Patrick described her as “very hands-on.”
Patrick recalls changes after their third child
Patrick said he began noticing significant changes in Lindsay about five months after Callan was born.
According to his account, she went several nights without sleeping, leading to a hospital visit and prescriptions for medication. He described the following month to month and a half as a “spiral,” during which she experienced what she described as severe depression and anxiety while continuing to struggle with sleep.
“I didn’t know how to manage a postpartum illness,” Patrick said. He added that mental illness can be “tragically deceptive” and that there were things he may not have recognized at the time.
Lindsay Clancy was accused of killing the three children in their Massachusetts home in January 2023. Her murder trial ended in a hung jury earlier this month.
The extended “60 Minutes” interview was released days after the program aired, marking Patrick’s first sit-down interview since the conclusion of the trial.
