Moscow.- The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, highlighted this Thursday the high level of relations with the United Arab Emirates upon receiving his Emirati counterpart, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, at the Kremlin, who has actively participated in the exchange of Russian and Ukrainian prisoners of war. “I am very glad to see you again in the capital of Russia. We attach special importance to relations with the United Arab Emirates; it is a friendly country for us,” Putin said at the beginning of the meeting with Bin Zayed, broadcast live on Russian state television. The Kremlin chief highlighted high-level political contacts, as well as the development of economic ties, both trade and investment.

“I would like to point out that Russian investments in the United Arab Emirates still significantly exceed Emirati investments in Russia, by almost double,” he noted.

The Emirati leader also indicated that trade between his country and Russia has reached 11.5 billion dollars and with the countries of Eurasia has reached 30 billion. “Mr. President, we want this figure to double in the next five years, both bilaterally and with the countries of Eurasia,” Bin Zayed told his host. According to the Kremlin, the Russian-Emirati negotiations addressed the implementation of bilateral projects in the energy and investment sectors, and upon their conclusion, several documents were signed in the areas of transportation and investments. The Russian Minister of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, stressed that these agreements “will give a new impetus” to bilateral cooperation and diversify trade flows, among other benefits for both parties. According to what was said, Russian service providers and investors will be able to operate without restrictions in sectors such as IT services, research and development, technical consulting, ship and aircraft repair, rail transport, legal services and others.

In addition, Russian companies are guaranteed the opportunity to open banking subsidiaries, medical institutions, and news agencies with 100% Russian capital in specialized free zones of the UAE. The documents signed today complement the free trade agreement for goods between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Emirates, signed in June 2025. According to Rashétnikov, the agreements signed this Thursday open up for Russia “64 sectors and subsectors” of the UAE that were previously inaccessible.
