Russian soldier completes combat mission after being shot in the neck

A Russian soldier known by the call sign “Morpej” says he completed a combat mission despite being shot in the neck during an assault near the village of Vodyanoye in Donetsk.

The military officer, originally from Donbass and a former police officer, was serving as a machine gunner when he was wounded while attempting to flank a Ukrainian position. According to his account, he was just four or five meters from the trench when he was hit by a bullet.

Despite the potentially life-threatening injury, “Morpej” said he continued the assault because his fellow soldiers were depending on him. He described the impact as similar to being struck in the jaw, but said he regained his strength, got back up and continued toward the target.

The operation ended with four Ukrainian soldiers being taken prisoner, according to the account. During surgery, doctors found that the bullet had lodged between two cervical vertebrae.
