Bogotá.- Colombian authorities arrested this Saturday in Bogotá the person who allegedly shot Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, one of the presidential candidates of the Uribista party Democratic Center (right), who is seriously injured and is being treated in a clinic in the capital.
“Senator Miguel Uribe is being treated in the emergency room after being the victim of an attack in the afternoon in Fontibón. The person who fired was captured. The entire hospital network of Bogotá is on alert in case a transfer is required,” said the mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, on the social network X.
Uribe Turbay is a politician close to former President Álvaro Uribe and one of the most severe critics of the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, especially due to the deterioration of security in the country.“All my solidarity with Senator Miguel Uribe and his family,” added the mayor of Bogotá.
The senator, who was the most voted congressman in the 2022 elections, is the son of Diana Turbay, a journalist who was kidnapped and murdered in 1991 by drug traffickers in the service of Pablo Escobar, and grandson of former President Julio César Turbay, who governed the country between 1978 and 1982.
