New York.- Traveling by train through the state of New York will be much more economical this summer thanks to the return of the “Summer Saturdays” program, a special promotion by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) that allows users with a monthly pass for the LIRR and Metro-North trains to bring up to two companions for only $1 dollar each, every Saturday until August 30, 2025. The announcement was made by Governor Kathy Hochul, who highlighted that this initiative aims to alleviate the economic burden on households, encourage the use of public transportation, and boost domestic tourism during one of the busiest seasons of the year. “We want New Yorkers to have more money in their pockets,” Hochul said. “Whether it’s to enjoy the beaches, natural parks, shows or cultural events, the train is the safest, most economical and comfortable way to get around our state.”
What does the promotion consist of?
All holders of valid monthly tickets from the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) or Metro-North can purchase up to two additional tickets for only $1 each per Saturday. These tickets can be used by anyone accompanying the holder during the trip. In addition, for the duration of the promotion, monthly tickets will offer greater flexibility, as they will be valid for travel between any station in the network, regardless of the user’s usual route.Dates and conditions:
- Validity: Every Saturday from this week until August 30, 2025.
- Requirements: Have an active monthly ticket.
