Trump freezes social aid to five Democrat states over alleged fraud in Minnesota

Washington.- The administration of US President Donald Trump is preparing to freeze federal aid valued at 10 billion dollars destined for social service programs in five Democratic states, amid the controversy over alleged millionaire fraud cases in daycare centers in the state of Minnesota.

The freezing of funds for the states of Minnesota, New York, Illinois, California, and Colorado, which was already confirmed by the Department of Health and Human Services, will apply to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families allocations ($7 billion), the Child Care Development Fund ($2.4 billion), and other social services grants (approximately $870 million). The Trump administration’s decision is framed by the scandal over the alleged millionaire fraud cases related to childcare programs funded with federal funds uncovered in Minnesota.

In fact, the controversy has already had other consequences, such as the decision by the governor of Minnesota and former candidate for the Vice Presidency of the U.S. in 2024, Tim Walz, announced this Monday not to run for a third term at the head of the state.
