Washington.- U.S. President Donald Trump is planning to hold a phone call with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, according to the digital media outlet Axios, citing anonymous sources from the U.S. Administration.

“No one is planning to go in and shoot him or kidnap him (Maduro), at this moment. I wouldn’t say it’s never going to be that way, but that’s not the plan at the moment,” a U.S. official close to the alleged conversations with Caracas assured Axios. This information comes after media reported that the White House’s pressure campaign – which includes a huge military deployment in the Caribbean since this summer – on the Maduro government has entered a supposed new phase that would include implementing covert actions. It also comes after the State Department today designated the Cartel de los Soles as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO), an organization about which very little is known and which Washington links to the leadership of the Venezuelan Army and Government and which claims is led by Maduro, who claims the accusation is unfounded. In turn, on Friday, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a notice urging commercial flights to “exercise extreme caution” when flying over Venezuela and the southern Caribbean due to the “potentially dangerous situation” arising from the increase in military activity in the region. This has meant that several European and American airlines have canceled their connections with the Caribbean country.
