Marileidy Paulino falls to Salwa Eid Naser and is left without a fourth consecutive title in the Diamond League
Zürich, Switzerland. – Bahraini sprinter Salwa Eid Naser caused a major upset this Thursday by winning the final of the 400 meters of the Diamond League in Zürich, stopping the clock at 48.70 seconds, a time that brought her back to the forefront of world athletics.
The Dominican Marileidy Paulino, current Olympic champion and big favorite for the event, finished in second position with 49.23 seconds, while the Norwegian Henriette Jager took third place by clocking 49.49 seconds, a national record for her country.
With this triumph, Eid Naser prevented Paulino from making history by becoming the first woman to conquer four consecutive titles in the Diamond League, after her crowns achieved in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Paulino arrived in Zurich with a brilliant year, being the star figure in stops like Paris, Monaco and Poland, where he dominated with authority. However, this time he could not overcome Eid Naser, who had not been able to beat her since last April.
Despite the setback, the Venezuelan sprinter is already setting her sights on her next big goal: the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, scheduled for September.
