SANTO DOMINGO.– Behind every successful baseball game, there are silent heroes whose dedication guarantees the spectacle. Aware of this reality, the Leones del Escogido held an emotional recognition this Tuesday for the ground maintenance staff of the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium, prior to the game against the Gigantes del Cibao.

The tribute highlighted the commitment, dedication, and daily effort of this group of collaborators, responsible for maintaining the playing field, gardens, and all areas of the stadium where the action takes place in optimal conditions, especially since Vitelio Mejía assumed the presidency of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) in 2017. During the regular season, the schedule had to be adjusted due to the effects of storm Melissa on the country. However, thanks to the tireless work of the maintenance team, the field could be conditioned on multiple occasions, allowing the celebration of matches without major setbacks. One of the most outstanding examples was the match between the Leones del Escogido and the Estrellas Orientales, held on October 20, which was not suspended and was able to start at 10:18 at night thanks to the extraordinary effort of the ground staff. As part of the event, Jeudy Paula Capellán, in charge of field maintenance, threw the ceremonial first pitch, accompanied by his collaborators Oscar Gutiérrez, Concepción Rosario, Joscar Pineda, Juan Paulino, Marino Parra, Francisco Núñez, Edwin Lara, Jonathan Vera, Daniel Feliciano, José Hernández and Yon Rosario. The ceremony was attended by the president of LIDOM, the general manager of the Leones, Carlos Peña, and the scarlet legend Wilkin Castillo, who served as the catcher for the honorary pitch. In addition to public recognition, Paula Capellán and the members of her team received financial compensation as a token of gratitude for their invaluable contribution to the development of Dominican baseball and the success of the season.
