NEW YORK. — The New York Mets received new concerns this Tuesday amid their complicated start to the season, after it was confirmed that Dominican Juan Soto will be limited to designated hitter duties while recovering from forearm stiffness.

Soto, who felt discomfort during defensive exercises last Friday, underwent an MRI that ruled out structural damage. The star outfielder, who bats .304 with an OPS of .831, played with discomfort over the weekend and hopes to be able to return to his defensive duties soon. The situation is less encouraging for Cuban Luis Robert Jr., who was left out of the lineup against the Washington Nationals due to stiffness in his lower back. The outfielder is considered day-to-day while he tries to recover. So far this season, he is batting .224 with two home runs and three doubles in 24 games. Adding to these inconveniences is the absence of Japanese player Kodai Senga, placed on the injured list due to inflammation in his lower back. In his place, the team has called up right-handed pitcher Christian Scott from Triple-A. Injuries continue to complicate the Mets’ situation, who are also without Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor, out with a left calf strain. The team went 3-12 during Soto’s recent absence, highlighting his impact on the offense. With a 9-19 record, the New York team faces increasing pressure, although manager Carlos Mendoza assured that he maintains regular conversations with management and remains focused on reversing the team’s performance.
