New York. The New York Mets announced that Dominican pitcher
Frankie Montás will move to the bullpen, leaving a spot in the rotation that, according to sources, will be filled by the club’s top pitching prospect,
Nola McLean, who could debut this Saturday against the Seattle Mariners.

Montás, who has recorded an ERA of
6.38 in eight starts this season, rejoined at the end of June after a right lat strain, but has not managed to regain his best form. In his last three outings he allowed
13 earned runs in 11.1 innings.
“He’ll be the first to say it’s been a battle for him,” commented manager
Carlos Mendoza. “He’s a competitor and wants to start, but he understands the results haven’t been there.”
The Mets’ rotation ranks 25th in collective effectiveness since June 13, and the team hopes the move will bring better results. Montás, 32, signed in the past offseason for
two years and US$34 million, with US$17 million guaranteed for 2026, provided he doesn’t opt out of the contract.
