Miguel Andújar arrives in Cincinnati: Reds acquire Dominican from the Athletics

Cincinnati, OH .— The Cincinnati Reds bolstered their offense this Thursday by acquiring Dominican infielder and outfielder Miguel Andújar from the Oakland Athletics, in a move made official just before the MLB Trade Deadline. Oakland receives right-handed pitcher Kenya Huggins as part of the deal.

Andújar, 29 years old, arrives in Cincinnati with a current offensive line of .298/.329/.436, including six home runs, 10 doubles and 27 RBIs, figures that consolidate him as a stable and effective offensive piece. His defensive versatility —capable of playing both in the infield corners and in the outfield— adds depth and flexibility to the Reds’ roster.

The right-handed batter’s best year was in 2018, when he finished second in the American League Rookie of the Year voting, only behind Shohei Ohtani, after recording a .297 average, 27 home runs and 47 doubles with the New York Yankees.

Over nine seasons in the Major Leagues, Andújar maintains a batting average of “.277” and an OPS of “.743”, solidifying his profile as a reliable hitter with experience in pressure situations. The Reds’ general manager, upon confirming the transaction, stated: “Miguel is a proven professional with a consistent offensive approach and the ability to contribute immediately. His arrival notably improves our depth and balance in the lineup”.
