San Diego. — The
San Diego Padres remain active in the trade market and this Thursday finalized the acquisition of
Dominican outfielder Ramón Laureano and
designated hitter Ryan O’Hearn from the
Baltimore Orioles, in a move that considerably strengthens their offense heading into the season’s close.

In return, the Orioles receive a
six-prospect package: pitchers
Boston Bateman,
Tyson Neighbors, and
Tanner Smith; infielders
Cobb Hightower and
Brandon Butterworth; and the versatile
Víctor Figueroa, who can play both infield and outfield.
A hot bat and experience for San Diego
Ramón Laureano, 30 years old, is having one of his best seasons in the Major Leagues. In 259 plate appearances this season, he is batting
.290 with an
OPS of .884, standing out as one of Baltimore’s offensive pillars before the trade. This will be the
third consecutive season in which the Dominican is traded mid-year, having played with the Guardians and Braves in 2024 before signing with the Orioles during the winter.
For his part,
Ryan O’Hearn, 31 years old, was selected to the
2025 All-Star Game thanks to his offensive line of
.284/.375/.452 with
12 home runs, establishing himself as an impact hitter despite having been a low-profile acquisition. His rebound in Baltimore, after difficult years in Kansas City, has been remarkable and the Padres are betting that he will maintain that level in the final stretch.
