Oscar De la Cruz will open the Escogido’s debut against the Charros in the Caribbean Series
GUADALAJARA, Mexico. – Right-handed pitcher Oscar De la Cruz will be in charge of taking the mound in the opening game of the Leones del Escogido this Sunday, at 9:30 PM (Dominican time), when they face the Charros de Jalisco (Mexico Rojo) at the Estadio Panamericano, after an outstanding performance in the Round Robin where he recorded a record of 2-1, 1.73 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 11 strikeouts in 26 innings.
The leader Ramón Santiago made it clear that the scarlet team’s objective goes beyond a good participation and is exclusively focused on conquering the trophy.
“We no longer represent only the Lions, but an entire country that expects us to bring the crown home again. We came to win, and that is the message that is transmitted to the group. It is not enough to have been champions in the Dominican Republic; if we win here too, the celebration will be double,” said the manager.
Santiago positively valued the balance of the Dominican team, which seeks the sixth Caribbean crown for the Escogido and the number 24 for the country. In addition, the Lions will try to become the second Lidom team to repeat Caribbean Series championships, a feat previously achieved by the Águilas Cibaeñas in 1997 and 1998.
The core of the team includes experienced players such as Junior Lake, Sócrates Brito, Christian Adames, Erik González and Gustavo Núñez, as well as a pitching staff headed by Travis Lakins, Oscar De la Cruz, Enny Romero and Jefry Yan, among others.
“We have speed, a solid defense, and good pitching. Our starters have a lot of quality, with De la Cruz and Romero reinforcing the staff after being among the best pitchers in Lidom. The bullpen also has important arms that will help us in key moments,” Santiago said.

Regarding the tournament’s level, the scarlet leader highlighted the quality of the participating teams. In addition to the Charros, the Leones will face the Cangrejeros de Santurce (Puerto Rico), Federales de Chiriquí (Panama) and Tomateros de Culiacán (Mexico Verde).
“We know it will be a demanding competition. All teams want to win and so do we, so we must work every day to achieve the championship,” he added.
