New York. The Philadelphia Phillies have displaced the Los Angeles Dodgers as the top favorites in the betting houses to conquer the 2025 World Series, according to the latest report from BetMGM. You may be interested in:Juan Soto approaches the historic 40-40 with the Mets

It’s the first time since the market opened last October that a team other than the Dodgers appears as the main candidate for the title. Philadelphia now has odds of +425, which represents an implied probability of 19.05% of winning their first championship since 2008 and the third in the history of the franchise.

The Phillies started with a line of +1100 when the bets opened in October 2024, placing them behind the Dodgers (+400) and Yankees (+800) after last year’s World Series. Since then, their performance in the season has driven a constant climb in the odds: from +1000 in June, to +900 in July, +800 in August, and +750 in early September.

Dodgers, the immediate rival

The Dodgers, the current champions, remain the main contenders with odds of +500, equivalent to a 16.67% chance of repeating the feat. If they succeed, they would be the first team to win consecutive titles since the Yankees (1998-2000).

A More Open Career

The market reflects a more balanced competition than in recent years: six teams are listed with odds of +800 or better. In addition to the Phillies and Dodgers, the Mariners (+550), Brewers (+750), Yankees (+750) and Blue Jays (+800) stand out. The last time so many teams started the postseason with similar odds was in 2021, when the Atlanta Braves surprised everyone by winning the World Series after starting at +1200.

Other applicants

In the intermediate group appear the Padres, Cubs, Red Sox, Tigers, and Mets, with odds between 13-1 and 25-1. While Guardians and Astros close the list as the least favored, with odds of 35-1. With the playoffs about to begin, the Phillies — seeded No. 2 in the National League — could face the Dodgers (No. 3) in an anticipated Divisional Series that is already raising expectations among fans and bettors.
