ATLANTA.- In a matchup charged with family emotions and sports drama, Ronald Acuña Jr. starred in a spectacular defensive play that changed the course of the game and led the Atlanta Braves to a 5-4 victory over the New York Mets, in the first Major League duel between Ronald and his younger brother, Luisangel Acuña.

The key play came in the top of the ninth inning, when Acuña Jr. made a spectacular catch jumping against the right field wall, robbing Pete Alonso of an extra-base hit. The action didn’t end there: the stellar Venezuelan outfielder quickly threw to first base to surprise Juan Soto, who had strayed from the base and was retired, completing a surprising double play.
“It was a special moment, not just for the play, but for sharing the field with my brother for the first time at this level,” commented Acuña after the match. Earlier, in the eighth inning, Dominican Marcell Ozuna cleared the bases with a two-out double that tied the score, giving Atlanta new life after being down 4-1. The collective effort culminated in the tenth inning with a sacrifice fly by Austin Riley, which sealed the comeback and the victory for the Braves. Atlanta’s opener, Spencer Schwellenbach, pitched seven innings, allowing four earned runs, including two from solo home runs by Soto and Tyrone Taylor. Although a defensive error by Acuña contributed to the other two runs, his brilliant play in the ninth more than made up for that moment. This triumph marks the fifth in the last seven games for Atlanta, which seeks to regain its best form after a difficult stretch of 3-14 in early June. With this victory, the Braves begin a tough series of games against the Mets and Phillies that could be key to their aspirations for the season. Luisangel Acuña, who played in the lineup for the Mets, did not hide his pride after the game: “It was incredible to see my brother make that play, even though it was against us. It’s something we will never forget.”
