UNITED STATES. The 2026 World Baseball Classic not only brings together the great superstars of world baseball, but also players with unique trajectories who bring inspiring stories to the tournament.

While established figures from
Major League Baseball attract much of the attention, the championship also opens space for players from different leagues and contexts who seek to leave their mark on the international stage.
One of those cases is that of the Brazilian
Leonardo Reginatto, considered one of the most outstanding players in the history of the Classic qualifiers. The veteran, who recently announced his retirement, will participate in the tournament as his farewell to international baseball.
Also noteworthy is pitcher
Adam Macko, born in Slovakia and raised in Ireland before settling in Canada. His story began in elementary school, where he discovered baseball as an extracurricular activity and ended up developing a professional career by being inspired by videos of the stellar pitcher
Justin Verlander.
Among the tournament veterans is Dutch reliever
Kevin Kelly, who has represented his country for more than a decade and starred in a memorable performance at the European Championship by pitching more than eight scoreless innings with 16 strikeouts.
The tournament will also feature stories of perseverance such as that of Mexican
Brennan Bernardino, who, after being released in organized baseball, went through independent leagues and Mexican baseball before returning to the Major Leagues.
Another particular case is that of Nicaraguan
Juan Montes, born in Guatemala and who became an important figure for his national team after signing with the
Baltimore Orioles following a tryout in his country.
The Czech Republic team will also present striking stories such as that of firefighter
Martin Schneider, who combines his professional work with baseball and returns to the tournament at 40 after recovering from shoulder surgery.
Among the veterans of the championship stands out the Cuban
Alexei Ramírez, former Major League star who will compete in the tournament two decades after having participated in the first edition of the event in 2006.
Also, experienced Panamanian pitcher
Paolo Espino will seek to contribute his experience after having debuted in the tournament at just 19 years old and reaching the Major Leagues more than a decade later.
The list also includes Australian captain
Tim Kennelly, a legend of the Australian Baseball League, as well as twin pitchers
Alex Wells and
Lachlan Wells, who will represent their country together in the tournament.
European baseball will also have a presence with Czech
Marek Chlup, who recently became the first position player born in his country to debut in Japanese professional baseball.
The list is completed with players like the Canadian
Adam Hall, the Dutch
Shairon Martis —one of the few participants who also played in the 2006 tournament— and the Taiwanese captain
Chieh-Hsien Chen, one of the most decorated figures in Taiwanese baseball.
