Fitzgerald and Mercedes lead Los Prados’ comeback over San Carlos

SANTO DOMINGO. BJ Fitzgerald and native Eddy Mercedes led a comeback by the Los Prados club, who were down by as much as 22 points, to defeat San Carlos 85-79 this Wednesday, in the first game of the double header of the eighth date of competition of the 49 TBS Distrito 2025.

The Pradenses found themselves losing by 22 points in the third period, 64-42, with 5:17 remaining, after Sancarleño Eddy Polanco scored a shot from the three-point arc. From there came the onslaught of Los Prados in an offensive that had as its main protagonist the American reinforcement BJ Fitzgerald, who scored 29 points in the game and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double, and likewise the native Mercedes (Chiquito Irving) with 23 points, six balls captured and distributed four assists. Kelvin Ramírez had nine units and seven catches. For the guys from Cinco Esquinas, the night was for the stardom of Juan Guerrero with double figures of 27 points plus 14 rebounds until the unexpected happened, they turned the scoreboard around and Los Prados won. Others who contributed for the defeated were Eddy Polanco with 13 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Anyeuri Castillo contributed seven digits. The Sancarleños won the first half 27-20 and the second 20-19 to go into halftime up by eight, 47-39. Los Prados, in the third quarter, began to show signs of the end, recovering from the eight-point disadvantage of the first half and closed by winning it 22-20, although on the scoreboard they were still losing, 67-61. But in the last stretch, the recovery was complete and Los Prados dominated by 12, 24-12, and sealed the score in their favor 85-79. The victory puts Los Prados and San Carlos in an even situation with a 2-2 record in group A. The TBS District 2025 is organized by the National District Basketball Association (Abadina), chaired by Colonel (PN) Diego Pesqueira, and the Organizing Committee is headed by José Ignacio Paliza, Minister of the Presidency.
