Doncic, who arrived at the Los Angeles franchise in February from the Dallas Mavericks in one of the most surprising trades in recent NBA history, expressed his enthusiasm for continuing to wear purple and gold.
“I just signed my extension with the Lakers. I am excited to continue working to bring championships to Los Angeles and make the Lakers Nation proud. Grateful to the Lakers, my teammates, and all the fans who have shown me so much love since day one. This is just the beginning,” the point guard posted on his social media.
In addition, Doncic took advantage of the announcement to make a major charitable commitment: “Today I am also committed to donating $5 million to help 77 young athletes around the world pursue their dreams, as I did. Basketball gave me everything, and I am fortunate to be able to give back and help the next generation.”
Selected five times for the All-NBA and All-Star Game, the 26-year-old player averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.7 rebounds per game last season, forming a stellar duo alongside LeBron James. His contribution was key for the Lakers to achieve 50 victories and finish third in the Western Conference.
